At IDEXX Animana, there were many feature releases. The competition already had robust tools for client portals, that would that would help livestock veterinarians share their work such as diagnoses, logbooks, visit forms with theri clients. The updated product that IDEXX Animana had built, had to be repositioned, so I was tasked to create a visual engaging explainer.
The challenge here was developing an explainer, that was short enough for livestock veterinarians to easily consume, and it had to be animated. The tool of choice in this case was Camtasia, unfortunately not a tool that is known for its ease of use when it comes to animating keyframes and creating nice motions. So let's walk through my process of getting this done.
01 · Scoping
The product team gave me the brief of the product, from that I managed to extract the audience and the purpose of the explainer. This video is aimed at livestock veterinarians, who are chronically short of time due to their busy agendas.
02 · Designing
I believed that the medium should be an explainer video, because a short visually engaging video is the right method to catch a livestock veterinarian's attention given their shortage of available time. From there I outlined the steps of the video so I knew beforehand what had to be animated.
03 · Developing
I wrote the script, asked a Subject Matter Expert to provide the voice over, and I produced the entire video over the course of 2 working days. I had to learn how to create animations in Camtasia using the keyframe feature, which I managed to do and resulting in a smoothly animated video.
